Houston area residents generally trust his or her doctor and the decisions they make. Doctors are important parts of the lives of individuals, relying on them and their experience to keep patients well and to properly diagnose and threat them. When a doctor fails to uphold his or her duty of care, this could result in an injured patient and a claim for medical negligence.
An Amarillo area doctor was recently accused for failing to follow acceptable standards and medical negligence. The Texas Medical Board has cited two cases for serious medical negligence. According to reports, in 2010, the doctor performed a hysterectomy on a patient and injured the patient’s bladder. He did not repair the injury and the patient’s condition worsened. The patient underwent three more surgeries and it wasn’t until the last surgery that her bladder was finally repaired. In 2011, the doctor was performing a hysterectomy on a patient when another one of his patients went into labor. The doctor left his hysterectomy patient under anesthesia and went to deliver the baby. Following the hysterectomy, the patient had severe medical complications. The doctor was also accused of having several sexual relationships with his patients. The Texas Medical Board will decide soon whether to revoke his medical license.
When a patient suffers surgical complications or other complications because of a negligent medical provider they can be very upset. Patients have the right to a standard of care that is accurate and doesn’t cause any more harm.
If a patient believes their medical provider was negligent in their care, they may want to contact a legal professional skilled in medical malpractice. An attorney can review the medical records and determine what happened to cause the unexpected injury. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.
Most Houston area doctors offer expert care to their patients. Occasionally negligence occurs that leads to serious injuries. In those cases, patients have legal rights to protect his or her rights and interests.
