The families of three patients who passed away before receiving liver transplants have filed a request for a temporary restraining order against a doctor at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. This legal action is in response to allegations that the doctor manipulated medical records, potentially obstructing patients from receiving vital organ transplants.
The request was submitted on Tuesday in Harris County’s 295th District Court. It seeks to prevent Dr. J. Steve Bynon from destroying or altering critical evidence that may be pertinent to a future wrongful death claim. According to Harris County civil court clerk Sasha Prince, the court has yet to schedule a hearing for this application.
A spokesperson for Memorial Hermann was informed of the filing but has not released a statement addressing the matter. The families involved are represented by a Houston law firm specializing in medical malpractice, which expressed its commitment to obtaining clarity and accountability concerning the patients’ cases.
“The first step of accountability is transparency,” stated the law firm’s founder, emphasizing that the goal is to ensure that the families receive the answers they are entitled to and to promote full disclosure for all patients potentially affected by the situation.
The court filing comes shortly after Memorial Hermann announced that it had discovered evidence indicating that Dr. Bynon made inappropriate alterations to donor acceptance criteria within a national organ-sharing database.
